ARTed Talks began in 2015 at Miami University as part of the Art Education program. Students completing Art 493, Professional Dispositions in Art Education, give a TED-style talk as their final for the course. Read below for more information.

ARTed Talks began in 2015 with a single participant; A lone art education student who bravely asked: What’s my passion? Now, ARTed Talks is a yearly event highlighting the work and passion of juniors and seniors in an Art Education course at Miami University. The model for the preparation and design is from the world-renowned series, TED (see TED.com) and TEDx that follow the TED Global Conference model. They extend the ideal of “ideas worth spreading.”

The course is designed to engage students in the development of professional dispositions and preparation of being an effective and productive art educator and leader. Students participate in local and national professional organizations, network with practicing educators, hone philosophy statements and understandings, maintain a professional website, develop and utilize professional resources, and explore writing for publication. They engage in multiple presentations, private and public, to hone their advocacy skills.
Questions the participants consider:
- What does it mean to be a professional leader in Art Education?
- How can I develop my confidence and my teacher identity through focused practice?
- How can the revision process improve the quality of my work?
- What beliefs do I have about the arts and education?
- What ideas do I have that are worth spreading?
- What is my contribution to the discourse of art and/or education?
